Wood is a natural product. Our slats are made of good quality Canadian larch, the majority of which has grown as fine and straight grain. The range of natural colour, structural and other differences within a wood species is one of the characteristics of the natural product that is wood and does not constitute grounds for complaint or liability. Branches and pitch pockets occur occasionally, but do not constitute grounds for complaint. The slats are practically free from cracks, however small cracks cannot be avoided. It is also natural that after some time and due to fluctuating temperatures, changes in the air humidity, the cold and the effects of sunshine, some swelling, shrinking or cracks could occur - this also does not constitute grounds for complaint or liability. The swelling can be countered in that the spacer blocks can be mounted not only at the sides but also in the middle of the wooden slats with wood glue. After a few months outside, the slats will take on a beautiful silvery-grey patina. If you do not want this then the slats must be regularly treated with suitable oils or wood glazes.
